Begginning of the school
The School of Naval Modelling started in 1988 as a complementary activity of the Nautical Museum, due to the Town Hall iniciative, in order to recover and teach an old craftsmanship job: the modelling.
The School has 10 students enroled nowadays, who are learning different techniques related to the job of modelling during 3 years.
Any work done in the School bears in mind both the historical research and the building of the naval model.
The naval heritage that is disappeared nowadays is also object os special interest.
The students work under the supervision of a specialized teacher, who gives the guide lines so that the students are able to obtain the model through different techniques.
Research and spread
Research is an essential step in the job of naval modeller and the School staff work together with the search and the information collection about the naval heritage from the oldest ages until the present days.
Between the projects fulfilled there are an study about the royal boat of Keops and another one about a 2nd Century AD Roman boat.
The naval model of the famous ship Caupolican is in process nowadays.
